From the Richmond Whig, 7/19/1864, p. 1, c. 4
DISCHARGED. - We mentioned yesterday that John J. Lindsey had been before the Mayor on last Saturday, charged with obtaining $1,200 from the firm of Brown, Deane & Co. That Mr. Deane had testified that Lindsey having, in the name of Chimborazo Hospital, bought from Brown, Deane & Co., a bill of goods, amounting to $1,200, Dr. Mackaw, Chief of the Hospital, refused to pay the bill, denying that Lindsey was his authorized agent. At the instance of Lindsey, the case was continued till yesterday, when Mr. Deane failing to appear, Lindsey exhibited some paper writings to the Mayor, who, without more ado, discharged Lindsey. The purport of the paper writings was not made public, but as it was satisfactory to the Mayor, we suppose it was all right.
