From the Richmond Examiner, 6/30/1864
CAGE ITEMS. - The only subject lodged in the lower cage yesterday was an unfortunate negro, gobbled by officers Jenkins and Moore, charged gravely with having an improper pass. All the doors of the cage, save the solitary closed door in which the accused sweltered, swung on their careless hinges; nobody to lock up; nobody to whom the attention of the police could be called to; no murders, arsons, rapes, fires, thefts, no nothing but a blank, undated docket.
