CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA,
MEDICAL PURVEYOR’S OFFICE.
Richmond, Va., April 1, 1863.
THE ladies of Virginia will render the Confederacy very essential service if they will interest themselves in the culture of the GARDEN POPPY; as a means of supplying one of the most valuable remedial agents used in the treatment of the sick and wounded of the army.
The juice exuding from the punctured capsules should, when sufficiently hardened, be carefully put up and forwarded to the undersigned.
Persons having Seeds of the Poppy will be paid a liberal price for the same, if early application be made at this Depot.
E. W. JOHNS,
Surgeon and Medical Purveyor,
