Chimborazo Hospital No. 4
March 25th 1864
Sir,
I have the honor to ask that Private W. Deiches, Co. G, 6th Va Infy may be appointed Hospital Steward and assigned to duty in this Division.
Priv. Deiches has been detailed since Sept 13th 1862 because of Inquinal(?) Hernia, which still exists. The Examining Board of this Hospital have repeatedly pronounced him unfit for active field service. He has been employed by me as clerk, has learned the duties of the position, & is skillful & competent.
A trustworthy clerk is important to the service of the Hospl. I am confident that Priv. Deiches will do better service to the government as clerk in this place than he can do as a private in the field.
Very Respectfully
Your Obt Servt
