Mr. W. K. Smith is Hospital Steward of 3d Division Chimborazo Hospital and the necessities of the Hospital require that his horse & wagon should be constantly in use. Will Maj. Cole please direct that the horse which was impressed from him be returned, if not in conflict with existing orders on the subject.

Respy forwarded to Maj. Cole. I have but six horses to bring the provisions for 1700 persons. I have now in the trenches 250 men. All these are dependent on these horses. They are indispensable.
