C. S. Mil. Prison
Richmond, Nov. 19, 1862

Captain G. W. Alexander
A. A. G. & A. P. M.

                  Captain:

Yesterday a man by the name of Charles Goodwin Priv. 32 N.Y., a deserter from the federals (who had been acting as hostler, but for some misconduct was put back into prison) made his escape from the prison.

He is about twenty years of age gray eyes, fair complexion and about little over 5 feet 4 inches high. He generally wears light pants with a blue jacket, with N.Y. state buttons on it also wears a round white felt hat. He is a very trim neat looking fellow in his appearance. Would you please let me have the assistance of one of your detective officers to find him. I am confident he is in the city somewhere. Could you spare Jno. Coon.

Yours respectfully
Thos. P. Turner
