From the Richmond Examiner, 7/8/1864

BELLE ISLE, the summer resort of the Yankee prisoners, is again uninhabited, they having taken to a flight further south. Those that remain - about five hundred in number - raiders, outlaws and special hostages, are quartered at the Libby. - Four hospitals for the reception of the Yankee wounded who fall into our hands are in operation. The hospitals are also under the control of Major Turner, the commandant of the Libby prison post.
