From the Richmond Dispatch, 5/11/1869, p. 1, c. 2

THE ALLEGED OUTRAGES UPON THE DEAD AT MALVERN HILL. – The publication of the statement that the bones of the Confederate dead at Malvern Hill have been plowed up and a part of them burned has created considerable excitement among the ladies of Richmond, who have in the past been so attentive to our fallen braves.

At a meeting held at the cemetery yesterday the ladies of the Oakwood Association resolved to investigate the matter at once, and made an appropriation to carry out the object. Steps will at once be taken to gather the scattered remains of our dead, and to inter them in one of our city cemeteries. It is to be hoped that the Hollywood ladies will join in the work, and that our young men will also volunteer assistance. The managers of the Oakwood Association will in a few days make a formal announcement of their plans. In the mean time let us indulge the hope that the reports of these outrages are greatly exaggerated.
