          Any of the following named Med. Officers can be assigned to the charge of the Division lately in charge of Surgeon Davis – Surgeons W. H. Amiss, D. Herndon, J. C. Herndon, E. G. Higginbotham, A. Taylor, F. F. Maury, Geo. Whitfield ("x" next to this name), E. Rives, Jno. Ward ("x" next to this name), J. B. Tuft, John Hills & Marion Howard ("x" next to this name).

          Please communicate with me at once and indicate which of these officers you think will be most efficient. The names marked thus x are known to me as officers of experience. I desire to assign a strong man and one who will cooperate with his strength with those so long, usefully and honorably associated with you.
