JOHN NEWTON VAN LEW.

Mr. John Newton Van Lew died Monday in Philadelphia. He was for many years a citizen of Richmond, and visited his sister here about a year ago. Before the war Mr. Van Lew was engaged in the hardware business here as a member of the firm of Van Lew & Taylor. During the war he was a staunch Union man, and upon the cessation of hostilities continued for a while his old business. He afterwards held a position in the postoffice under his sister, Miss Van Lew, who was postmaster.
