Tredegar Gets Contract For Navy 6-Inch Shells
Tredegar Iron Company of Richmond was low bidder for construction of 600 six-inch practice shells for the Navy. Tredegar was able to assure delivery of 300 of these shells within 42 days and the remainder within 63 days.
The Tredegar price was $19.19 each, while Bethlehem Steel Company asked $20.50; Crucible Steel Company, $21; Dayton Steel Foundry Company, $22; and Midvale Steel Company, $24. Speedy delivery of the small order was necessary. The local company in past years has handled considerably larger orders for the Navy Department.
