From the Richmond Commercial Bulletin, 5/6/1865, p. 3, c. 3
SMALL-POX. – Brig. Gen. Dent, the Military Governor, has issued an order directing the vaccination of every inhabitant of Richmond, white and black, who have not heretofore been vaccinated. The disease has appeared in the city, and vaccination is recommended as a precaution against its increase. Gratuitous vaccination will be performed at the U. S. Dispensary, corner of Broad and 8th streets, the Libby Hospital, and at the Stuart Hospital, head of Main street. We apprehend that great difficulty will be experienced in the matter of procuring virus by the citizens, there being little or none in the city.
