Public School Examinations.

From the Richmond Daily State Journal, 7/1/1871, p. 1, c. 4

We continue our report of yesterday’s proceedings at the public schools, which, for want of space and time, were omitted yesterday:

At one school alone, on Church Hill, thirty-four out of fifty pupils were never late, nor absent a single day, during the session of nine months. One of the most cultivated ladies we met was a Virginian, Miss Rodgers, teaching a colored school on Chimborazo. Her scholars were under admirable discipline, and reflect credit on her patience and efficiency.

Miss Hattie Rodgers, a Virginian, has another white school near by, and girls here were dressed pretty enough for a floral festival. Her discipline was admirable, and her boys stood a first-rate examination.
