MISS VAN LEW AND THE PRESIDENT. – Miss Van Lew, the postmistress of Richmond, Va., had an interview with the President yesterday, and the Richmond post office was fully discussed. She was assured that the appointment would not be made before May, but Miss Van Lew feels very confident that she will be reappointed. Her principal competitors are Mr. Jeffards, her present assistant postmaster, and Dr. C. S. Mills, the present collector of customs, a native of Richmond.
