The 1st Conn. Artillery.
We have received a number of letters from members of the 1st Conn. Heavy Artillery, all of which complain of the treatment the boys are receiving. They complain that they are detained in service on the James, while other regiments are permitted to go to Washington with a view of returning home, merely to gratify some aspiration of their commanding officers. Further it is said they have not been paid off in from six to eight months. From the frequency of these complaints we are compelled to believe that there is something wrong in the management of the regiment, and we trust there will be no delay in instituting proper inquiries. The 1st Artillery have performed splendid service, and should have thanks instead of kicks.
