Miss Sallie Tompkins, the only woman who ever received an officer’s commission in the Confederate army was painfully injured in Richmond by accidentally. She received a wound in her forehead several inches long. Miss Tompkins is 75 years old. She was taken to the home for needy Confederate women where she lives.
