From the Richmond Whig, 6/24/1862, p. 1, c. 1
ANOTHER COMPLAINT. – We are informed by a gentleman who visited Oakwood Cemetery on Saturday, that he saw forty or more dead bodies lying there unburied. Sunday he saw thirty-nine. Many of these must have lain there several days, as, in some cases, they had swollen and burst the coffins. The keeper excuses himself on the ground that he has but six hands, and can not, therefore, bury as fast as they arrive. He should have sent a written notification of this fact to the person charged with the duty of interring deceased soldiers and thus been prepared to show by official correspondence that he was not to blame.
