From the Richmond Examiner, 2/8/1866, p. 3, c. 2
THE EIGHTH STREET NUISANCE. – The railroad track running from the corner of Broad and Eighth streets, down Eighth street to the Canal, is a nuisance. The track was laid to serve a temporary bellum purpose – to facilitate the conveyance of provisions and stores to the army of Northern Virginia – and, having served that purpose, it should be taken up and removed, and the street put in passable condition for vehicles. The rails have not been used since the 3d day of April last, and it is not likely that they ever will be used again. Let the road be removed at once by the Street Commissioners of the City Council, if an ordinance is required to lift the rails. It is one of the relicks of the late war that the city can well dispense with.
