The loss to the State by the burning of the work shops at the Penitentiary, Monday evening, together with the work consumed and the delay and the difficulty in preparing for a renewal of operations, cannot be much less than fifty thousand dollars – some have supposed it even more. It will, we fear, be some time before the machinery destroyed can be repaired.
