From the Richmond Dispatch, 11/4/1861
The Prisoner Account – Since the commencement of the war, 2,685 Federal prisoners have been brought to Richmond. Several battalions have been sent Southward, and some released, leaving 1,714 in the prisons here at roll call last Saturday morning. We learn that another lot of 250 will be sent to Columbia, S. C., to day. It is a good plan to keep them moving on, since their concentration at any one point makes the family too numerous, and there seems to be little prospect of making an exchange according to the usages of war.
