From the Richmond Dispatch, 6/30/1888, p. 1, c. 5
No Negotiations Pending.
It having been stated “on good authority” that Richard Mansfield, the talented actor, who has won national reputation by his impersonation of the dual character of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, would purchase the Van Lew homestead on Church Hill and make Richmond his future home, a Dispatch reporter yesterday made inquiry about the matter of Mr. Apperson, who has the property in hand. He stated that no negotiations for the property were pending, nor had he heard that Mr. Mansfield desired to make the purchase.
