From the Richmond Dispatch, 9/6/1861
Promotion. – Colonel Joseph R. Anderson, of this city, has we learn, been appointed a Brigadier General in the army of the Confederate States. Colonel Anderson has been assiduously engaged for months past in preparing cannon and munitions of war for the use of our Government, but is now to be transferred to a higher, though not more useful, sphere of action. His many friends predict for him a successful career in the field of active operations, to which he will proceed at an early day.
