From the Richmond Dispatch, 1/27/1863, p. 1, c. 5
Aiding Condemned Men. – The officers at Castle Thunder succeeded yesterday in detecting a pistol, bottle of brandy, vial of poison, a large knife, razor, and file, that a woman was attempting to convey into the cell occupied by John Mulligan and Dan’l Kennedy, two prisoners now in confinement there under sentence of death by Court Martial. Information that these articles would be carried into the cell, if possible, was soon conveyed to the officers by an outside party, who refused to give his name, but whose information proved correct. Mulligan was to have been shot yesterday, but execution of sentence was again delayed by the Secretary of War.
