From the Richmond Dispatch, 7/19/1861, p. 2
The Remains of the late Micajah Bates, a most excellent and kind-hearted man and exemplary citizen, was yesterday conveyed to their last resting place in Holywood [Hollywood] Cemetery, attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends. This was a fitting tribute to the memory of one whose walk and conversation among us for many years, has been so unobtrusive, courteous and kind, yet so useful in private and public life.
