From the Richmond Dispatch, 5/27/1862, p. 2, c. 3
Fatal Result. – We alluded yesterday to the fact that on Sunday, in front of the Exchange Hotel, while the servant of an officer was endeavoring to unload the latter's baggage from his horse, a pistol contained therein exploded, the ball passing through the servant's foot and glanced off, striking another negro in the body, who was standing by, inflicting, it was supposed, a mortal wound. The last one alluded to – a boy named Henry, a body servant of Capt. G. W. Alexander, Assistant Provost Marshal – lingered in great agony from. Sunday evening until yesterday at 1 o'clock, when death put an end to his sufferings. He bore an excellent character, and his death resulted from a very singular incident.
