                                  Sir,

I send you to day under guard privates J. Branan, F. Spies & [scratched out, illegible] charged with desertion from 6th La Regt & substitution in Co. D 10th Va Cavly attached to this command. Also Private Gilsay Co. A 32nd Va Battn Cavly against whom charges & specifications have been filed with Gen. Elzey for attempting to desert to the enemy. The 3 men from the 6th La. Regt are claimed by Lieut. John Shay Comdg &c Co. G of that regt. Please send receipts for them.
