2/6/1864 2/1/1864;            Paid $30 for 1 month’s Room Rent from Jany 1st 64 to date. “No quarters.” McCaw & Habersham sign. (p. 8) “M. D. O. Feb 4/64. Res. Returned. Is this the sum actually paid for the rent of a room by the Surgeon in charge and can no lodgings be assigned these matrons at this Hospital? Wm. A. Carrington, Med. Director.” “Chimb Hospl Feby 5/64 Respy Returned. I have rented the only house fit for such a purpose. It holds 9 to 10. The others rent rooms. They can not get them for $30 a month. The Q. M. Genl (see enclosed endorsement) will allow them same commutation as officers. To have them in hospl wards would have a bad effect in every way & would require much expense. J. B.
