MISS VAN LEW, postmistress of Richmond, Virginia, refused the request of the clerks to close the postoffice on Memorial Day, but they young men applied to President Grant, and the decision was reversed. Thereupon Miss Van Lew discharged one whom she supposed to be a ringleader in the movement.
