Police Report Real Clues in Krengel Case

Detective Chief O. D. Garton today said an investigation is being made of definite clues which may lead to the arrest of the assailant of John Ernest Krengel, 69-year-old pattern maker at the Tredegar Iron Works, who was last found murdered at the plant last Wednesday.

Chief Garton would not divulge the clues which have been discovered, but he did announce that a ballistics study will be made of the bullet which was found lodged in Mr. Krengel’s brain.

Meanwhile, a bulletin announcing the $500 reward for information leading to the murderer will be mailed out to every police department in the United States. The reward is being offered by the iron works, and no Richmond police officer will be permitted to share in it.

Mr. Krengel was found stuffed, head first, between two shelves in the pattern supply building at the iron works Wednesday. He had been beaten over the head, shot with a .22-caliber firearm and robbed of between $2,000 and $3,000.
