From the Richmond Dispatch, 7/25/1864, p.1, c 5

Fire – The alarm of fire which sounded about ten o’clock Saturday morning proceeded from the burning of D. John Dove’s stable, in rear of his residence on Main street, between 19th and 20th. It was the work of an incendiary and would have resulted in the entire destruction of the building had not the firemen promptly arrived on the spot and extinguished the flames. The torch was applied to a lot of provender in the upper story of the stable, which, together with the roof and part of the weatherboarding was destroyed. About three thousand dollars will cover the loss.
