REMOVING THE SAFES from the ruins is now the chief occupation of those sufferers by the fire who were so fortunate as to possess the salamanders. – Yesterday the safe of Messrs. Goddin, Apperson & Harrison, bankers, corner of Main and Eleventh streets, was taken from the ruins and opened in the presence of a curious throng of spectators. Its contents, the books and papers of the firm, were found in a perfect state of preservation. The safes of other business firms were gotten out and opened during the day, and their contents generally found uninjured, which fact is another illustration of the value of the article.
