HEAVY ROBBERY AT THE EXCHANGE HOTEL – TWO OR THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS IN GOLD, GREENBACKS AND JEWELRY, THE SPOILS. – Sometime during Saturday night, the Exchange Hotel was entered, burglariously, and a heavy robbery perpetrated. The burglar, or burglars, entered through a rear window into the chamber of a guest, a jeweler from the North, removed his trunk containing jewelry, but open his traveling valise, and took therefrom about three hundred and fifty in United States Treasury notes, and fifty dollars in gold coin. The valise was left behind, but the trunk was carried away. The police were early notified, and were energetically employed in tracing up the case, but without final success. The robbery was certainly a bold one, and shows that there are burglars in our midst of the most daring and desperate character. We could not learn the victim’s name.
