1862-08-18, Richmond Whig; Gen. C. S. Winder’s body arrived and lay in state in the Capitol. He will be buried in Hollywood Cemetery.
1862-08-28, National Republican (Washington, DC); anecdote of cruelty on the part of Jackson Warner of Libby Prison to a patient in “Dr. Higginbotham’s hospital.” Notes that Warner’s family was from the North, and he steals money to send to them.
1862-09-15, National Archives; E. S. Gaillard has been made Medical Director of hospitals in Richmond.
1862-09-26, Richmond Examiner; Surgeon General's report on Richmond and Petersburg hospitals. Notes that, up to this time, almost 100,000 patients have been treated in Richmond hospitals. Includes mortality figures.
