1904-05-20, Richmond Times-Dispatch; USS Montauk has arrived at Richmond for scrapping for Tredegar. Other obsolete monitors will soon be brought here as well
1904-06-03, Virginia Citizen (Irvington, Va.); USS Montauk has been bought by Tredegar and is returning to Richmond to be scrapped. Notes that for years it had been anchored in the James river.
