From the Richmond Whig, 6/13/1865, p. 2, c. 5

MAYO’S BRIDGE. – The bridge across James River, opposite 14th street, will be completed this week. Communication with the South side will then be greatly facilitated, and a portion of our pent-up population may find convenient quarters in the Chesterfieldinan village across the water. We hope the day is not far distant when the people of Manchester, as well as those of Richmond, may rejoice at the existence of a “free bridge” connecting the two places.

When the Danville Railroad Bridge is rebuilt, the Directors would do a wise thing to run a horse-car between the Richmond and Manchester termini. No objection would be made, however, to the employment of steam as propelling power.
